WEATHER ADVISORY
The forecast for Valley 4th RUN calls for temperatures in the mid-80s with high humidity. The event will proceed as scheduled, but we ask participants to take the following precautions:
- Consider switching to a lesser distance! If you’d like to change your distance, please reply to this email so that we can update our records. The course is a 1.5 mile loop, so this will simply change how many laps you complete. You will keep the same bib number. As a reminder, 1.5 milers complete 1 lap, 5K = 2 laps, 10K = 4 laps. We are not able to provide refunds for distance changes at this time.
- Run/walk at a slower pace and maintain hydration. Take advantage of the water station located on Court Square (and be sure to hydrate with electrolytes between now and then). There will also be freeze pops available at Liberty Park courtesy of Riner Rentals.
- Take breaks by walking instead of running. Some walking is normal in the heat regardless of skill level.
- Wear sunscreen.
- Recognizing symptoms of heat illness in yourself and others is critical; this may include headaches, dizziness, confusion, fatigue, nausea and vomiting. If you experience any of the these symptoms, please rest, find shade, and hydrate or seek the help of one of the bike EMS team members that will be patrolling the course.
- Cool down at the finish line with our hose and slip ‘n slide. Bottled waters on ice will also be available.
